I took over the little boat in Sept 2009 and have sailed her in the Flensburger foerde, she is a small weekend cruiser that has a lot of potential. Her ballast and keel allow her to go to windward well and she is light on the helm.
Under power with a 4hp 2stroke she easily reaches hull speed.I have "Led" bulbs fitted in the runninglights and a simple Solar panel to recharge the battery when she is not plugged into the mains.
I have during the past 12 months replaced the running rigging and checked the standing for any defects.
I am at present repairing a few problems that have built up over the years uder her previous owners..ie poorly fitted items and the use of silcone that has become leaky.
The sink was plastic and broken I have replaced it with a smaller stainless steel one,and am building a small food locker into the remaining area. Also better supports for the forward bunk,and also built up the cockpit lockers lids so that they are now (with luck) waterproof.
I use a laptop with a GPS linked navigation programm complete with up to date charts of the Baltic plus a full set of paper charts with Harbours guide. I also have a hand held GPS unit for waypoints and speed etc.It also acts as a second compass.
I have replaced the wiring to the mast top lights and have replaced the internal lights with led bulbs in order to save the main battery.
At present she is in dry dock as I work on her hull. I have filled and sanded the transom where a bathing ladder had been replaced and the previous holes not properly filled or painted.!! No wonder she took on water !
I am hoping to find other jidzo owners in order to get together for sailing and exchanging ideas and tips.
